TYPIST-WRITER

I took a scan of the entire alphabet, upper and lower case as well as some other characters (numbers and , . /), wrote a program to display them by their index, and viola! A computer typewriter.

To use this, just start typing.

There is no cursor - typewriters didn't have them. But there is a backspace, as I didn't want to program white-out into this website. As I said before, you can only type upper and lower case characters, numbers and ', . /' - but feel free to add this in your own version! If you have a typewriter, (mine is a 1960s Adler Tippa Typewriter, all yellowed and old) type out the alphabet, scan it and upload it to your own website!

I programmed this by splitting an image of my typewriter's printed typeface into all of it's characters, of which can be added to a parent div element. Not only does this work very well, but it is also very simple. This could've been improved by taking multiple sample prints of my typewriter and picking one at random when a user types a character - next time. Moreover, how there is no backspace on typewriters and instead the carriage just moves backwards. I could have implemented this, so that you could type-over pre-printed text, but that would require transparency and weird CSS properties - next time.
